  • Professor of Marine Biology at the University of Rostock
  • Organic matter cycles, benthos ecology, biodiversity, major focus area: Baltic Sea

Short CV

  • Prof. Graf (1950) graduated in Biology and Chemistry at the University of Kiel in 1977. He obtained his PhD. in Zoology 1979 on "energy charge measurements in marine benthos" and the postdoctoral lecture qualification for Marine Biology in 1989 at the University of Kiel. His habilitation thesis was published as a review article: "benthic pelagic coupling: a benthic view" (1992) in Oceanogr. Mar. Biol. Ann. Rev. These studies were part of the National Research Center (Sonderforschungsbrerich SFB 313) on global environmental changes in the northern North Atlantic, which ran from 1985 until 1998 in Kiel. He was Professor in the department of Marine Environmental Geology at GEOMAR in Kiel between 1991 and 1996. During this period, he was involved in the EU-funded OMEX programme Ocean Margin Exchange Experiment, 1993-1996) and the national project BIGSET (Biogeochemical Transport of Matter and Energy in the Deep Sea) between 1997 and 2001. He was appointed Professor for Marine Biology in Rostock in 1996. The research projects in which Prof. Graf participated since then are enumerated on the project list.
